The SEC has approved FINRA’s revised outside activities framework, narrowing the kinds of activities that are within the purview of outside business activity requirements.

In this article, Partners Brian Rubin and Ben Marzouk discusses how the SEC-approved rule provides relief by treating activity at an unaffiliated RIA as an outside activity rather than an outside securities transaction, while also creating exceptions for certain affiliated activities and personal non-securities transactions. They also discuss how related oversight will continue.
