William draws on his experience working with policymakers, regulators and industry stakeholders to counsel investment advisers and other financial services clients on SEC and other regulatory and public policy developments affecting their businesses. These include issues in emerging areas such as artificial intelligence and digital assets.
Prior to Eversheds Sutherland, William was Director of Public Policy and Associate General Counsel at the Investment Adviser Association, where he played a key role in leading advocacy efforts before Congress, the SEC and other policymakers on issues affecting investment advisers.
He previously served as Assistant General Counsel at the CFP Board, where he helped shape the organization’s regulatory and governance framework. Earlier in his career, he was Chief Compliance Officer for one of the largest independent SEC-registered investment advisers, including as legal advisor to its Investment Committee and ERISA Committee.
William maintains an active role in industry leadership and education, including as Chair of the DC Bar’s Corporation, Finance and Securities Law Community and as an Adjunct Professor at the George Washington University Law School teaching Securities Drafting.
He is the author of several scholarly, peer-reviewed articles on AI governance, digital assets, cybersecurity, and data privacy.
